British designer Thomas Heatherwick has unveiled plans to create a new art gallery at the V&A Waterfront museum in Cape Town by hollowing out sections of a grain silo complex. Heatherwick Studio's proposal is to give the V&A Waterfront a building dedicated to contemporary African art within the cluster of 42 concrete tubes that make up a historic grain silo structure. An elliptical section will be hollowed out from the center of the nine-story building to create a grand atrium that will be filled with light from a glass roof overhead.
