San Francisco

A 30-acre site of underutilized space located beneath a multi-level interchange in San Francisco, CA is envisioned as a highly productive sequestering urban forest that humanizes the street level making it accessible, safe, and enjoyable for the public. The design had three primary goals. 1) Combine time, process, and ecology to offset CO2 emissions from the freeway while creating a memorable place. 2) Reduce persistent flooding on this former marshland. 3) Reconnect 2 neighborhoods to each other and to the city’s largest Farmer’s Market... Beautiful Facet:  NATURE

New York landscape architect James Corner and his firm Field Operations will lead the design efforts for what could become one of San Francisco’s most remarkable settings, a new bluff overlooking Crissy Field. The selection comes after an unusual competition where five teams were asked to submit conceptual visions for the 13 acres that will blanket two automobile tunnels now under construction. Corner's concept extends the Main Post’s central lawn to a curvaceous bluff atop the tunnels, then slides via paths to a more intimate landscape facing Crissy Field’s marsh... Beautiful Facet:  SYNERGY
